It has been a while since I commented on football; February in fact. Well, a long time later and we are now in August. The traditional season curtain raiser has been played which saw Arsenal defeat Chelsea in the Community Shield in penalties. Looking forward, we still have Jim White Day (Transfer Deadline Day) to look forward to and the best thing to come out of Hartlepool; Jeff Stelling will be back with the boys on Gillette Soccer Saturday bringing all the score updates from the Saturday 3 o’clock kick offs. Between now and May, we have a full season of football to look forward to and as a Newcastle United fan, I see my club embark on Premier League campaign, after a year out in the Championship.

Neither came and the manager in charge of ‘all footballing matters’ does not know what happened. Newcastle recruited no new faces in an underwhelming January window but then that does not come as a surprise. However, six faces left the club on loan. read more

The football season is back in full swing The Premier League has started up again, the British teams know who they will be facing in Europe again, Big Sam has had his first game as England manager and Jeff Stelling is already sick of the sight of Bianca Westwood after her excellent reporting on Hartlepool United’s 6-1 capitulation at Stevenage. For anyone who missed the latter and would like laugh here’s a link.

Meanwhile, my beloved Newcastle United readjusted to life back in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League in May. The purpose of this series of posts is to provide my thoughts on developments at Newcastle during the season including match reports, some juicy stats, transfer updates, my hero and zeros of the month before looking at the month ahead.
